THE WONDER PRODUCT - COCONUT OIL

COCONOIL ORIGINAL VIRGIN COCONUT OIL (460g)

It's only recently that I've noticed the hype surrounding coconut oil, but as soon as I saw this mentioned in this post by ViviannaDoesMakeup I knew it would work wonders for me; a budget, coconut-scented wonder oil for dry skin? It's got me written all over it.

I'm sure you've all seen numerous posts praising this little secret oil; but honestly the uses are endless. I often use it in the place of a moisturiser on my body, resulting in the silkiest legs in the world. I mix it with my evening moisturiser to amp it up a little, or sometimes I use it alone as an intense hydration mask - it works amazing on scars and spots too.

It can be used to soften cuticles, as a lip balm, as an eye cream (which i love) and if you're a fan of DIY beauty products, it's a main ingredient in homemade soaps, shampoos and lotions . You can cook with it too - it's meant to be a great low-fat replacement for regular cooking oil.

The possibilities are endless (see this list of 101 ways to use Coconut Oil if you'd like to cover all bases), but my two most-used ways to use it are as a hair mask and as a makeup remover. Apply liberally over the ends of the dry hair, leave for 10 minutes and shampoo out. You will be amazed. Seriously better than any hair mask I've tried.

Cleansing with the oil is my favourite way to use it, I've been doing this for about a month now and I've noticed a huge difference in my skin. It's so much more balanced and has really helped to clear up my dry patches. I cleanse first with a makeup wipe and use the oil afterwards to take the rest of the makeup off. I use it like a cleansing balm, scoop out a bit with my fingers, it melts immediately massage into my face and rinse off with a flannel. It leaves the skin feeling so soft, smooth and hydrated. Perfect for those dry-skinned gals like me.

I know coconut oil is a little unglamorous, kind of lard-like and smells a bit weird but I honestly promise you'll find a use for it, and I couldn't recommend it enough. I (Caroline Hirons wrote this blog post on Coconut Cleansing, if you needed any more persuasion).

What are your thoughts on Coconut Oil? Have you tried it before?

  1. I love coconut oil, I usually use mine as a mask on my hair, in smoothies or for frying. It's soooo good isn't it :)

    1. It's amazing!! Sooo cheap too :) I really should start using it for cooking, i've never tried that that, I think using the same pot for face/hair/food is a little unhygienic, but I think I'll definitely buy another soon and try it for cooking. :)
